Patient: dressage horse - competing advanced medium, training psg
sarcoid removal resulting in thick scar tissue
Diagnosis: cellulitis in opposite hind limb resulting in gait abnormality
Treatment:
Melanomas and sarcoids removed in groin area and from between the hamstring muscles of the hind limb. This was conducted by the specialist veterinary surgeon in laser surgery - Jeremy Kemp-Symmonds.
Thick scar tissue resulted from the extensive surgery required to remove the melonoma, which left the horse with cellulitis in the opposite hind limb and a gait abnormality.
Intensive physiotherapy with Ultrasound , frictional massage and stretching exercises resulted in the horse achieving good movement of the hind limbs and the ability to advance in his work, developing his changes and correct advanced lateral work for dressage.
Maintenance:
This is a case that requires regular treatment to keep the scar tissue as pliable as possible and assist in the horses posture and comfort. Due to his owner's attention to detail and correct training, the horse is hugely successful.
